What is anal douching?

Anal douching is when you rinse the rectum with water until it runs clear.

When the water is rinsed out again, any unwanted elements will follow, which means you minimise the risk of accidents during anal sex.

This allows you to relax and enjoy the experience even more because you don't have to worry.

But is it really necessary?

The intestine is designed to store what it produces further up and away from the rectum.

This means that as long as you've been to the bathroom and otherwise feel empty, you're ready to explore.

But if you prefer to be on the safe side, anal douching is your friend.

Psst!... We’ve added the top three FAQs at the end of this post.

What are the different types of anal douching?

There are several different products for anal douching, but I have found the two most popular ones for you.

Which one you choose depends on your level of experience and personal preference.

Anal douche for beginners

The most popular product is an anal douche.

And yes, this has the same name as the method you use for anal douching.

An anal douche is a pear-shaped pump in a squeezable material, which allows you to easily insert the water at your own pace.

The anal douche is an absolute bestseller because it’s easy to use, easy to store and easy to clean - so it’s ideal whatever your experience level. Especially if you’re a beginner.

One of the best anal douches for beginners is one with a flexible silicone tube. This means that it is bendable and not as rigid as a plastic tube.

If you use the Sinful Soft Comfort Anal Douche, you’ll get a flexible tube that is easy to insert, even if you haven’t tried it before.

The silicone tube is about the same thickness as a slim finger, and thanks to the soft material, it’s easy to control and feel how far you have inserted it.

If you’d prefer using a more firm douche, then take a closer look at the Sinful Deluxe Anal Douche.

The tube itself is made of plastic. It’s narrower and shorter than the silicone tube, which can be an advantage for beginners - but remember to insert it very slowly. Otherwise, it can tear a bit.

Shower heads for connoisseurs

A specially designed shower head for anal douching requires a bit of experience.

Unscrew your regular shower head and screw this one onto your shower hose instead before checking that the water is at a comfortable temperature.

Next, insert it and turn on the water.

Pay extra attention to the water pressure and temperature when using a shower head, as it comes out with a greater force than when using a handheld anal douche.

It’s also important to avoid too much water entering the intestine, as this can be painful.

So, if you prefer to use a shower head, you must have tried anal douching before and be familiar with the process.

Now that you know a little more about the different products, it goes without saying that you also need to know the best way to use them.

How to do it

Treat this list as a comprehensive manual for anal douching.

Here are our top tips and steps to help make anal douching a positive experience for you. I have provided illustrations to make it easier.

Once you've tried it a few times, you can even make your own list of what works best for you.

As an anal douche is the most beginner-friendly, this is the one I’m going to start with rather than a showerhead. However, most of these steps apply to both products.

1. Take your time

The first time you try an anal douche, it is essential that you leave yourself plenty of time for the process.

Put on your favourite podcast or music and take it one step at a time.

2. The right temperature

The water you use must be at the right temperature - preferably lukewarm, never boiling.

Make sure the water is to your liking before filling the anal douche by testing the water jet with your finger.

Please fill the pump completely so that there is minimal air in it.

3. Top tip

Use lube! This helps make the experience pleasant. Make sure you smear it on both the anus and the anal douche tube before insertion.

It is worth using a water-based lube intended for anal use.

Anal lube is thicker in consistency and easier to place correctly.

4. Squat down and squeeze gently

When it’s time to insert the tube, many people find it easier from a squatting position. If you'd rather stand up, put one foot on the toilet seat and arch your lower back.

The most important thing to ensure is that you are in a position where you can keep your balance.

First, squeeze the pump a little to force out any air.

Then carefully insert the tube.

Now slowly squeeze the water out of the pump until it is empty. Keep squeezing as you remove the anal douche again.

5. Time to rinse

Stand up and sit on the toilet to get the water out again.

Do this in the same way you would when you normally empty the rectum.

After the first rinse, it may be a good idea to sit there for a little longer than you normally would to make sure all the water has come out.

6. Repeat as needed

It varies on how many times you have to repeat the process to feel completely clean.

A good rule of thumb is when the water that comes out is clear or semi-clear, which may well take 2-3 rinses with the anal douche.

And REMEMBER to use a lube every time.

The first few times you try it, you may find that it feels a little different to what you have experienced before. It may feel like you need to go to the toilet without actually having to.

So I can’t stress enough the importance of allowing yourself plenty of time to make sure you have a positive experience.

When you're at home in a safe environment without time pressure, you can go to and from the toilet until you know how your body reacts to an anal douche.

Regardless of how long it takes you, it's best to wait for an hour or two after anal douching before you or a partner start exploring the area.

Cleaning the anal douche

Once you’ve finished your anal douching, you must of course also clean your anal douche.

Start by filling your anal douche with a little water and pour it into the toilet so that you are sure that there are no residues in the pump.

Remove the tube and clean both parts thoroughly with warm soapy water. You can also use a sex toy cleaner.

You can sterilise the silicone parts in boiling water for a few seconds if you prefer.

If the anal douche tube is made of plastic, you can’t use boiling water as this may deform it.

If you still have questions, here is an FAQ I have put together for you.

FAQ

So that you’re completely at ease with starting anal douching, I have listed the top three questions we get asked the most.

How often can I rinse?

There are no official guidelines for how often you can have an anal douche. So my advice is to only do it when you think you really need it.

If you rinse too often, you risk irritating the natural intestinal flora, and there’s no reason for that.

Is it necessary?

The short answer is no.

As I mentioned earlier, your body is designed to let you know before you need to go to the bathroom. It doesn’t suddenly send out a shipment.

Regardless of whether you have cleaned or not, minor accidents can happen when you have anal sex.

Does it hurt?

Until you've learned how to use an anal douche, it can feel a bit uncomfortable - that’s completely natural, but it should never hurt.

If it hurts, you may need to use more lube, relax more, and insert the tube even more slowly.

A clean passage is a happy passage

Although anal douching is not quite as crucial as one might think, many people use it for peace of mind.

And that makes perfect sense.

When you have sex, the most important thing is how you feel.

An anal douche can help give you the peace of mind that you might not have if you don't clean.

If you’re curious about trying an anal douche, you should definitely do it! As long as you follow the steps, you will soon know if it makes you feel more comfortable, making anal sex even more enjoyable.

Enjoy!
